Vertical Injection of Compact Torus into the STOR-M Tokamak
نویسندگان
چکیده
Vertical compact torus injection into the STOR-M tokamak has been conducted with the University of Saskatchewan Compact Torus Injector (USCTI). The injector stayed at the horizontal position and the CT was bent by 90 using a curved conducting drift tube. The curved drift tube did not have significant effects on the CT velocity. Furthermore, the curved drift tube did not change the magnetic field topology. Preliminary vertical CT injection experiments have been carried out on the STOR-M tokamak. CT injection induced prompt increase in the electron density and in the soft x-ray radiation level. Further modifications of the 90 degree bend are underway to improve the CT parameters and to further study the effects of CT injection on the tokamak plasma parameters.

Investigations of Magnetohydrodynamic Instabilities in the STOR-M Tokamak
Studies of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) instabilities in the Saskatchewan Torus-Modified (STOR-M) tokamak have been conducted to examine the mode structures and time evolution during the Ohmic discharges and after compact torus (CT) injection. External discrete Mirnov coils and two pin-hole soft x-ray (SXR) cameras have been used for the studies. The time-resolved frequency component analysis has ...

1 Tokamak fuelling using high velocity compact torus (CTs). Compact toroids (CTs) are self-organized magnetized plasmoids in a nearly force-free Taylor state. In the laboratory, CTs can be formed using coaxial electrodes and a solenoid magnetic field coil. The resultant CT equilibrium is sufficiently robust that it can withstand extremely large acceleration (>1 x 10 g) and can achieve high fina...

In previous Compact Toroid (CT) injection experiments on several tokamaks, although CT fuelling had been successfully demonstrated, the CT fuelling process has been not clear yet. We have thus conducted CT injection into simple toroidal or vertical vacuum magnetic fields to investigate quantitatively dynamics of CT plasmoid in the penetration process on a spherical tokamak (ST) device. Understa...
